Sleeping Among Art: The Vendue in Charleston, SC

C H O O S I N G A P L A C E T O S T A Y while planning vacation can sometimes be hard. You want to make sure you’re choosing a place with great reviews, a convenient location to what you’ll be doing on vacation & at a price point that matches you’re budget. For me, I also look at esthetics as well because I’ve always got photos for the ‘gram in mind. Plus I want to feel like I’m staying at a luxurious place even if it’s not technically an expensive place.

So where do you start? How do you find the place that matches all of your key wants? Sometimes there really isn’t a place that has everything, but sometimes there is!

Usually my go-to websites for places to stay are Airbnb & Homeaway. But since I was traveling alone & wanted a bit of pampering (i.e. fresh towels and a made bed each day), I decided to look for a hotel. For hotel bookings I tend to hit up all the discount sites like TravelZoo, Expedia etc.

After searching through these sites I was lucky to find at deal at an awesome hotel in the French Quarter of Charleston. The location was great, the price reasonable for my budget and the esthetics were almost perfect. So, I took a chance and booked the place through TravelZoo.

Then my trip arrived & my expectations were blown away. When I walked into my room at The Vendue in Charleston, I seriously fell in love with the boutique hotel!

The staff was incredibly nice and showed me to my room. They use traditional keys which I thought added a nice touch to the ambiance of the hotel. I was fortunate to be placed in one of their gallery rooms which was decorated with original art from one of their previous artist in residence. It was so cool to see how much the hotel support the arts & appreciated the work of artists.

The queen size bed sat up high and was draped with Egyptian cotton sheets and comfortable pillows (I love good pillows). Of course after all the traveling I just wanted to take a nap on that bed 😂 but I made myself freshen up and explore some of the city.

When I returned back to the hotel, I learned that The Vendue offers turndown service which was something I wasn’t used to. They come into your room (unless you request they don’t) and pull the shades, take off the throw pillows, leave you chocolate and information about the day before “bed time”. This apparently is a Southern custom.

My room also came with complimentary Sherry which I didn’t sample, but it did look pretty lux sitting on the mantle of the fireplace. Yes, I did say fireplace! My room had a beautiful gas fireplace with a flat screen TV over it. There was also another TV in the bathroom. *Sighs* that bathroom was my esthetic to a T. The only thing missing was a deep bathtub to soak in, but I did really enjoy the large shower. It had two shower heads and plenty of room for two people. Plus, all the toiletries the hotel provided were cruelty-free! I appreciated that so much. The bathroom also came with comfy white towels, a hair dryer, a vanity area & two lux bathrobes & slippers.

Apart from my hotel room, The Vendue also has a pretty reception area, bar area where they serve complimentary continental breakfast in the morning, a rooftop bar & a newer restaurant called the Revival. I did have a chance to see the rooftop bar, but I didn’t get a chance to sample the restaurant. I’ll definitely have to do so next time I visit the city. The Vendue is also separated into two buildings–one is directly across the street from the main building. While I was lucky enough to be staying in the main building, it didn’t seem inconvenient to others to make the quick walk across the street to grab breakfast in the morning.

Complimentary breakfast in the morning 😊

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at The Vendue. Everyone was so nice & helpful. The room was beautiful & the location was awesome. The hotel was steps away from the pineapple fountain & waterfront park as well as about 4-7 minute walk to main attractions and restaurants like Rainbow Row & the Husk restaurant. The Vendue is definitely a hotel you want on your list when planning a trip out to Charleston, SC. I hope you enjoyed my little tour of this hotel & my room!

Stay tuned for a travel guide of what I did & where I ate in the city!

xx
