Honestly, at almost 30 years old, I still never thought this day would come — when I’d own a dog! I’m so over the moon happy to introduce you to my new baby-girl, K.C. Grace!
Bittersweet Beginnings
K.C. stands for my uncle — Kevin Carr. Last October my uncle passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack. My emotions are still pretty raw thinking about it and even writing this now because we were close. At the time my uncle had actually texted my mom a few weeks before that his two pups, Sophie and Max, may have mated? successfully. Sophie and Max are still pups themselves and I have memories of when my uncle brought them home–they’re so adorable aren’t they?

Fast forward to a week after my uncle’s passing. We ended up taking Sophie to an ultrasound appointment that my uncle and his girlfriend had set up. At the appointment the vet confirmed that Sophie was pregnant and had at least 5 puppies! We were excited but also sad. We knew how excited and happy my uncle would have been to hear that Sophie was really pregnant.
The vet said Sophie would be due around the week of Nov. 16, 2020. My uncle’s girlfriend continued to take care of her and Max. Sophie was such a good mom-to-be and an even better mom once she delivered! Sophie actually ended up delivering one pup naturally before the vet could induce her for her C-Section. Sophie gave birth to her 5 pups, but unfortunately one of the pups wasn’t viable. He or she didn’t end up making it after the delivery. We were sad to hear this and said a prayer for the little one. We were able to bring home the other 4 that day and Sophie went right to work being a great mom taking care of them. She had 3 girls and 1 boy on November 19, 2020.

It was amazing to get to watch them all grow. It was even more astonishing to see how many different colors the puppies were, especially when I thought all of them would be fawn–the dominant color. I decided early on that I wanted a pup that looked just like Sophie, but then little K.C. was born & I just knew this would be the puppy my uncle would have kept. I fell instantly in love! My grandparents had a doberman growing up so I was always extremely partial to the black/brown combo on dogs and seeing K.C.’s all black fur, I just knew she’d be my new fur baby! I was extremely lucky she was a girl since I was really wanting a girl puppy. I was so lucky to be there from her birth until now. Naturally I documented her and all the puppies right away. So please enjoy photos of her and her siblings as they grew up!
I’m so honored and humbled to have been able to watch K.C. grow–to have been the one to give her her first medicine, clip her nails for the first time, introduced her to grass for the first time, taken her on her first walk and her first trip to a pet store! She’s been such a joy (even during her zoomies and wilder time) during this time of grief for me and my family. Now if only I could get the kitties on board…
hah, love you all! & Welcome Home, K.C. Grace!
