I ‘ V E N E V E R been one to be bold with my outfit choices. As I mentioned in my quick fashion history a few days ago, my go-to outfit usually involved a t-shirt of some kind paired with jeans (that were always too long for me).
There’s always controversy when it comes to showing skin. But as Emma Watson recently said “feminism is about giving women choice.” Whether you think showing skin is empowering or not, I personally find it a way to showcase my confidence, explore my fashion tastes and express myself through clothing.
Society seems to constantly tell women what they can and cannot wear based off their body shapes. Hell, just pick up a fashion magazine and it’s all about ‘skirts to wear if you’re pear-shaped’ or ‘the best jackets to wear if you’re short.’ While these articles do have their points, it doesn’t mean that I’m only regulated to a certain cut, color, shape or length of clothing due to my body shape. Instead, I’m free to explore whatever suits my fancy no matter how large or curvy my body or how much skin I’m showing.
Although I’ve recently been trying to figure out my fashion style and focusing my wardrobe down, I still feel like bolder pieces like this velvet leotard are a fun way to spice up my wardrobe.
Honestly, I never thought I’d ever share a photo of myself wearing an outfit like this. I always thought that I was too heavy for this type of clothing–not to mention I was never confident enough to show cleavage or something this revealing. I always thought I could never pull it off. But when I put together this outfit with my favorite black boots on a sunny day to take photos, I never felt so confident!
I ended up loving this velvet bodysuit from Charlotte Russe! I do like it paired with these jean shorts, but I think this outfit would look even better with black shorts or black skinny pants/jeans. Unfortunately this particular bodysuit is no longer available (that I could find), so here are some similar ones that I’ve been able to find that are either velvet or have that plunging v element: Velvet option 1, option 2, & option 3 or Plunging V option 1, option 2, option 3, option 4 & option 5.
Needless to say, I rocked this outfit 😉

March 15, 2017 at 3:19 PMI’ve always been a Charlotte Russe fan…and an advocate of wearing what makes you feel good. I’ve been working on going minimalist and I’ve had to discover that about my own wardrobe. If it doesn’t feel good or bring you joy, it shouldn’t be in there. Thanks for going bold…and for sharing!

March 17, 2017 at 9:27 PMThank you! Yes, as I mentioned on your blog, I’m trying to scale down myself! It’s so awesome that you’re moving more minimalist. Maybe one day I’ll get there too!

March 16, 2017 at 5:19 PMYou definitely rocked this outfit! I like velvet but when it comes to washing those clothes I feel like they are not the same after so I avoid to buy something similar. When it comes to dressing and having a certain style, I think the most important thing is to feel good about. When you feel like you don’t need to fixed it all the time and to check is everything on its place, other the less, you can wear anything you want no matter who says what.
